Blimey

Chicheng, Hebei Province

I will have to give you a proper update later. The connection here is really slow. We have been camping out for the last few days in some fantastic places. Finally..... the great outdoors.

More pictures coming soon.

Ditch is turning out to be quite a guard dog.

I'll leave you though with this video clip. It will help explain why we haven't travelled very far.

Looks amazing Rob. You must be pleased to be on the open road again after the siege of beijing. And yes, ditch is massive. All the photos have a slightly chilly look about them!

Oh dude I'm so glad the mind power thing has finally come to fruition. This is exactly how I pictured it: Big mean dog, man with wind in hair (although the hair is hidden) big hills in background.
Well, when you get to Inner Mongolia it might get slightly more windy, on the grasslands at least. Not necessarily colder though.
Of course the great Go West (and North) campaign of our beloved you know who has paid off in that in the fifties there were 5 million people in Inner Mongolia, now there are 24 million, most of whom are - guess what!

I walked around in Hohhot, the provincial capital of I. M. for a whole day and didn't hear a word of Mongolian spoken. Only Putonghua. (Mandarin) The Mongolian culture is only trotted out for tourists and the like.

To be honest, I'm vexed senseless.
Inner Mongolia is now: Oil refineries. Drab and dreary towns who (which) want to look like Shenzhen. Endless wastelands with the sudden apprearance of a city clouded in pollution. Gers (mongolian huts) which are only used for touristy purposes. The relentless invasion of desert, unstopped because of over-grazing by goats to satisfy Japanese hunger for cashmere jumpers. Eight lane highways, more or less completely empty. It's a sad sad province but hey! It has its uses so let's use it some more.

So I hope you'll have a good time there. Call the guy whose number I gave you, he is good and sound.

you need to find a way to attach a sail to the trike, so you can get a break from pedaling.

Wheelie is so unstable with all the weight, a sail would just flip her. I do have enough luggage though to act as a wind catcher in the unlikely event of a tail wind.

and anyway, pedalling is the whole point, no?
